UPVC Spraying Before and After: Real Results from Real Homes

UPVC Spraying Before and After: Real Results from Real Homes

There is nothing quite like seeing a real before-and-after transformation to understand what UPVC spraying can do for a property. Photos tell the story better than words ever could, and they are usually what convinces homeowners to go ahead with a project.

Over the past 11 years, we have sprayed thousands of properties across the UK. In this guide, I want to show you what UPVC spraying actually looks like in practice, from tired white frames to stunning colour transformations, and explain what went into each type of project. Whether you are considering spraying your windows, doors, conservatory, or the whole house, these real examples will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

UPVC Window Spraying: Before and After

Window transformations are our most common project, and they are also the most visually dramatic. White UPVC windows that have been in place for 15 to 20 years typically develop a yellowish tinge, chalky surface texture, and a generally tired appearance that makes the whole property look dated. Even if the windows are still perfectly functional, the frames let the house down.

The difference after spraying is immediate and striking. The frames go from looking like something that belongs on a 1990s new build to looking like a premium, contemporary installation. The most popular transformation we carry out is white to anthracite grey (RAL 7016), which gives properties a modern, high-end appearance that completely changes the kerb appeal.

UPVC Window Spraying: Before and After

What the Process Looks Like

Every window spraying project follows the same core process. First, we mask all glass, seals, brickwork, and surrounding areas with protective sheeting and precision tape. Then we thoroughly clean and degrease every frame, lightly abrade the surface to create a key, and apply a specialist adhesion promoter. Only then does the paint go on, applied in thin, even coats using professional airless spraying equipment. The full preparation process is covered in detail in our UPVC preparation guide.

For a typical three-bedroom semi with eight to ten windows, the entire job is usually completed in a single day. The masking is removed once the paint has tacked off, and the final result is a smooth, even finish that is indistinguishable from factory-applied colour.

UPVC Door Spraying: Before and After

Front doors are one of the most impactful things you can spray because they are the focal point of your property. A faded, scuffed white UPVC front door can drag down the appearance of an otherwise well-maintained home. Spraying it in a fresh colour transforms the entire entrance.

Anthracite grey remains the most popular choice for front doors, but we are also seeing growing demand for bolder options. Black, navy blue, chartwell green, and sage green are all colours that make a real statement on a front door. Some homeowners choose a different colour for their front door than their windows to create a feature, which can look fantastic on the right property. Our UPVC paint colours guide covers the most popular options and which shades suit different property styles.

UPVC Door Spraying: Before and After

Back Doors and French Doors

It is not just front doors that benefit from spraying. Back doors, patio doors, and French doors are often overlooked, but they can look just as tired as the front entrance. Spraying all your doors to match your windows creates a cohesive, pulled-together look that runs right around the property. The cost of adding doors to a window spraying project is relatively modest, so it is usually worth doing everything at once.

UPVC Conservatory Spraying: Before and After

Conservatory transformations are some of the most dramatic projects we carry out. A white UPVC conservatory that was built in the early 2000s can look incredibly dated, especially if the rest of the property has been updated. The white frames, white roof bars, and white fascia all combine to create a look that screams "bolt-on extension" rather than "integral part of the house".

Spraying a conservatory anthracite grey or another dark colour completely changes how it reads. Suddenly it looks like a modern extension that was designed to complement the house. The effect is particularly striking when the conservatory is sprayed to match the windows and doors, creating a unified appearance across the whole property.

Conservatory spraying is a bigger project than windows alone because there is more framework to cover, including roof bars, ridge pieces, and often fascia and guttering. But the transformation is proportionally bigger too. Many of our conservatory customers tell us it is the best home improvement they have ever made in terms of visual impact for the money spent.

If you are considering having your conservatory sprayed, our UPVC spraying cost guide includes specific pricing for conservatories of different sizes.

Full House UPVC Spraying: Before and After

The biggest transformations happen when homeowners commit to spraying everything: windows, front door, back door, conservatory, fascia boards, soffits, and guttering. A full house project takes the property from looking tired and dated to looking like it has had a complete external makeover.

Full house projects are also the best value. The per-item cost drops when everything is done in one visit because the setup, masking, and equipment time is shared across the whole job. It also means there is no awkward period where some of your frames are a different colour to others.

We always recommend doing the full property if the budget allows. The visual impact of having every external UPVC element in a matching colour is significantly greater than having just the windows done. It is the difference between a property that looks like it has had some work done and one that looks like it has been comprehensively upgraded.

White to White: Refreshing Faded UPVC

Not every before-and-after involves a colour change. One of our most popular projects is spraying tired, yellowed white UPVC back to a crisp, bright white. After 15 to 20 years of UV exposure and weathering, white UPVC loses its brightness and develops a chalky, greyish appearance that no amount of cleaning can fix.

Spraying white UPVC frames back to white is a simple, cost-effective way to make your entire property look fresher without changing anything about its character. It is especially popular with homeowners who are happy with white windows but want them to look new again, and with landlords preparing properties for new tenants or for sale.

What to Expect on the Day of Your UPVC Spraying Project

If you have never had UPVC sprayed before, it helps to know what the day looks like. Here is a typical timeline for a standard window spraying project on a three-bedroom house.

Morning: Masking and Preparation

We arrive early and begin by masking all glass, seals, brickwork, window sills, and any other surfaces that need protecting. This is a meticulous process that typically takes two to three hours for a full house. Once masking is complete, we clean and degrease every frame, then apply the adhesion promoter and allow it to flash off.

Midday: Spraying

The actual spraying is often the quickest part of the process. Using professional spray equipment, we apply the colour coat in thin, even passes. Each window takes only a few minutes to spray, but the preparation beforehand is what makes those few minutes count. Depending on the colour and coverage required, we may apply two coats with a short drying interval between them.

Afternoon: De-masking and Inspection

Once the paint has tacked off sufficiently, we carefully remove all masking tape and protective sheeting. We then inspect every frame, checking for even coverage, clean edges, and a consistent finish. Any minor touch-ups are done at this stage. By late afternoon, the project is typically complete and we clean up the site.

Curing Time

The paint is touch-dry within an hour or two, but it continues to cure and harden over the following 24 to 48 hours. During this time, we recommend avoiding touching the frames, leaning anything against them, or closing windows tightly if possible. After 48 hours, the finish is fully cured and the frames can be treated normally.

How Long Do These Results Last?

The before-and-after results you see are not temporary. Professional UPVC spraying using 2K polyurethane paint is designed to last a minimum of 10 years. The colour will not fade significantly, the paint will not peel or crack, and the finish will remain smooth and even throughout that period. For a detailed look at what affects longevity, read our guide on how long UPVC spraying lasts.

The only maintenance required is the same as you would do for any UPVC: an occasional wash with warm soapy water to remove dirt and grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or solvent-based products, as these can damage any painted surface over time. A soft cloth or sponge and some mild detergent is all you need to keep your sprayed UPVC looking its best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see examples of UPVC spraying near me?

We are always happy to direct you to completed projects in your area so you can see the quality of our work in person. When you contact us for a quote, let us know that you would like to see a local example and we will do our best to arrange it. We also share regular project photos on our social media pages.

Will my sprayed UPVC look as good as new factory-coloured windows?

Yes, and in many cases better. Factory-coloured UPVC typically uses a foil wrap that is bonded to the surface during manufacture. Over time, these foils can lift at the edges, especially in direct sunlight. A professional spray finish is a continuous wet-applied coating that does not have seams or edges to lift. The result is a smoother, more even finish. If you are curious about the paint itself, our guide on what spray paint to use on UPVC explains the professional products we use.

Do you spray UPVC in winter?

We spray all year round, but we do need reasonable weather conditions. The temperature needs to be above 5 degrees Celsius, the surfaces need to be dry, and wind needs to be minimal. In practice, this means we occasionally need to reschedule during particularly cold or wet spells in winter, but we complete projects in every month of the year. We will always be upfront about scheduling if weather is a factor.

How do I know if my UPVC is suitable for spraying?

The vast majority of UPVC windows, doors, and conservatories are suitable for spraying regardless of age, colour, or condition. The key requirement is that the frames are structurally sound. If the UPVC is warped, cracked, or if the sealed units have failed, it may be more sensible to replace rather than spray. During our free site visit, we assess every frame and will be honest with you about what is and is not suitable. You can also check our guide on whether you can paint UPVC windows for more detail.

Can you match the colour of my neighbour's windows?

Yes. If you know the RAL code, we can mix an exact match. If you do not know the code, we can usually identify the colour from a photograph or a site visit. Anthracite grey (RAL 7016) is by far the most common colour on modern new builds, so if your neighbour's windows are a dark grey, there is a very good chance they are RAL 7016.

What happens if I am not happy with the result?

Customer satisfaction is our priority. We inspect every project thoroughly before leaving site and we do not consider the job complete until you are happy with the finish. In the unlikely event that any issue arises after we have left, our 10-year guarantee means we will come back and put it right at no additional cost.
