uPVC windows before and after spray painting on a UK home

uPVC Window Painting Cost in the UK (2026 Guide, Real Prices, No Guesswork)

If you’re Googling “uPVC window painting cost”, you probably want one simple thing, a clear price you can trust.

I get it. Pricing online is often vague, and it’s easy to end up comparing apples to oranges. One company quotes “from £75”, another says “£200 per window”, and suddenly you’re none the wiser.

I’m Paul from uPVC Spray Team. We quote uPVC window spraying jobs all the time, from a single tired bathroom window to full house colour changes. In this guide, I’ll show you realistic UK cost ranges, what changes the price, what to watch for in quotes, and how to get an accurate figure without wasting your time.

And yes, I’ll also cover the “near me” side of things, including a Manchester-focused section, because property styles and access up here can change the job more than people realise.

Quick answer, how much does it cost to paint uPVC window frames?

For professional uPVC window spraying in the UK, a common guide price is around £150 per standard window, with many real-world quotes landing in the £150 to £200 per window range depending on size, access and prep.

For bay windows, it’s often £300 to £350, because there’s more masking, more surface area, and usually more awkward angles.

For a full 3-bed house, totals commonly land around £1,000 to £1,800 depending on how many windows and doors you’re doing, and whether access is straightforward.

Those figures are guides, not a promise. The point is to give you a realistic starting range before you request a quote.

Typical uPVC window painting cost breakdown (UK guide prices)

Here’s a simple breakdown you can use as a ballpark.

ItemTypical UK cost range (guide)Notes
Small/standard window£150 to £200Often the most “typical” price point
Bay window£300 to £350More masking and time
uPVC door + frame£200 to £260 (sometimes ~£230+)Depends on style, panels, letterbox, frame complexity
Whole house (average range)£800 to £1,800Number of units and access matter most

If you’ve got extras like garage doors, conservatories, soffits, fascias or guttering, the total shifts, so always check what’s included and what’s not.

What actually affects the price?

Two houses can have “10 windows” and still get very different quotes. Here’s why.

1) Window size and style

A chunky bay with lots of edges takes longer than a simple casement. Also, windows with lots of little panes (Georgian bars) often mean more masking and detail work.

2) Colour change vs same colour refresh

Changing from white to anthracite grey (or black) is usually more labour than refreshing white-on-white. Dark colours can show prep mistakes more, so pros tend to be more careful and thorough.

Tip from the real world: if you want a darker colour, ask your sprayer what prep they do on chalky or sun-faded frames. That’s where shortcuts show up later.

3) Condition of the frames

If frames are:

  • heavily oxidised (that powdery surface),
  • stained with old silicone,
  • covered in traffic film,
  • scratched or gouged,

…then the prep takes longer. Prep is where the job is won or lost.

4) Access and height

This is a big one. Upstairs windows, awkward rear access, conservatories in the way, or anything needing special access can increase cost. Even simple things like a narrow alley or a steep driveway can slow a team down.

5) How many items you’re doing

Spraying one window can be relatively expensive per unit because setup and masking still take time. Spraying a full set often brings the per-window average down.

uPVC window painting cost near me, how to compare quotes properly

When people search “near me”, they usually want speed, trust, and a decent price. Totally fair.

Here’s how to compare quotes in a way that actually protects you:

Ask these 7 questions before you book

  1. Is it sprayed on-site or removed and sprayed off-site?
  2. What prep do you do, cleaning, keying, priming where needed?
  3. How do you protect the glass, brickwork, paths and plants from overspray?
  4. How many coats are included?
  5. Do you remove and replace external silicone if needed, or paint over it?
  6. What’s the expected lifespan and what voids the guarantee?
  7. Can you show real before-and-after photos of similar jobs?

If a quote is cheaper but skips silicone work or prep, it might not be cheaper long term.

uPVC window painting Manchester, what changes the price here?

Manchester (and Greater Manchester) has loads of properties where access and window style affect the job:

  • Victorian terraces often have bays at the front and tight access at the back.
  • Townhouses can mean multiple storeys and more time on ladders or access equipment.
  • Busy roads and on-street parking can make setup slower.
  • Weather swings can affect scheduling, especially in exposed areas.

So if you’re searching “uPVC window painting Manchester”, don’t be surprised if your quote is driven more by access and property layout than by the number of windows alone.

Practical tip: when you request a quote, send photos of the front and back elevation, plus any tricky access points. It speeds everything up and usually leads to a more accurate price first time.

Painting uPVC windows by hand vs spraying, what’s the real difference?

People ask this a lot, especially after seeing DIY videos.

DIY by hand (brush/roller)

It can look fine from a distance if you’re careful, but the problems we see most are:

  • brush marks,
  • paint not bonding properly,
  • peeling at edges,
  • paint stuck to seals,
  • water getting into areas it shouldn’t.

Professional spraying

When it’s done properly, spraying gives a smooth, even finish that looks much closer to factory colour frames. It’s also faster across multiple units because the process is repeatable and controlled.

If you’re tempted to DIY, I’d strongly recommend reading our guide on whether you can paint uPVC windows, plus the prep guide, because prep is where DIY often falls down.

“Does painting uPVC windows work?” and “does it last?”

In our experience, it absolutely works when the prep and products are right.

A realistic lifespan for professionally sprayed uPVC can be many years, and we’ve seen guides quoting figures like 8 to 12 years with proper care.

The killer is poor prep. If someone paints over oxidation or contamination, the coating can fail early.

The part most people miss, what’s included in the price?

This is where you can avoid nasty surprises.

A proper professional quote usually includes:

It may or may not include:

  • silicone removal and replacement,
  • repairs to damaged frames,
  • scaffolding or specialist access,
  • spraying inside faces of frames,
  • spraying sills, soffits, fascias, guttering.

If you want like-for-like quotes, make sure you’re comparing the same scope.

A simple uPVC window quote calculator (rough, but useful)

If you want a quick back-of-the-napkin estimate before getting a proper quote, try this:

  1. Count:
  • standard windows
  • bay windows
  • doors (include frames)
  • garage doors
  1. Apply guide prices:
  • standard window: £150 to £200
  • bay window: £300 to £350
  • door + frame: £200 to £260 (often ~£230+)
  1. Add “access/condition” buffer:
  • easy access, decent condition: add 0 to 10%
  • awkward access or very faded frames: add 10 to 25%

This won’t replace a real quote, but it stops you being shocked by numbers that are actually normal.

Infographic showing typical uPVC window painting costs in the UK

Real-world example, why two “similar” jobs priced differently

We once quoted two homes with a similar number of windows.

  • House A had straightforward access, modern casements, and clean frames.
  • House B had bays, awkward rear access, and heavy sun-fading plus old silicone that needed sorting.

House B took longer, needed more prep, and had more masking. The price wasn’t higher because we fancied it, it was higher because the job genuinely had more steps.

Also, at House B, I had to keep shooing my dogs away from the masking tape when I got home. Charlie and Buster treat it like a toy, Ember and Simba like to “supervise”, Max tries to walk off with cloths, and Molly acts innocent while doing the most damage. If you’ve got pets, it’s worth mentioning to your sprayer so we can plan doors and work areas sensibly.

How to get the fastest, most accurate quote

If you want an accurate price quickly, send:

  • clear photos of each window type (standard vs bay),
  • a front and back photo of the property,
  • your postcode (so we can factor travel and local access),
  • your preferred colour (or a shortlist),
  • whether you want doors and frames included.

That’s usually enough for a proper quote without back-and-forth.

Is uPVC window spraying worth it vs replacing?

If your frames are structurally sound (no serious warping, no failed units you’re replacing anyway), spraying is often far cheaper than full replacement.

Some industry guides talk about uPVC spraying being a fraction of replacement cost, with savings that can be substantial when you do multiple units.

The best way to think about it is this: if the frames work fine and you just hate the look, spraying is usually the sensible upgrade.

Most UK guide prices put professional uPVC window spraying around £150 to £200 per standard window, with bays often £300 to £350. Your final cost depends on size, condition and access.

Many whole-house quotes land roughly between £800 and £1,800 depending on the number of windows and doors, plus access and extras like garage doors or conservatories.

In many cases, yes. If your frames are still in good working order, spraying is commonly positioned as a cost-effective alternative to replacement.

When the prep is done properly and the right exterior coating is used, sprayed uPVC can last for years. With proper care, some guides estimate around 8 to 12 years.

You can, but DIY often fails due to poor prep or using the wrong products. If you’re considering DIY, focus on cleaning, keying, priming where needed, and protecting seals and glass.

Local pricing is influenced by travel, access, window types (bays cost more), the condition of frames, and whether you’re doing one window or a full set.

Guide prices often put a uPVC door and frame roughly in the £200 to £260 range, with variations based on door style, panels, letterbox, and frame complexity.
